Cooper loses first match
Kincardine, Ontario's Brianna Cooper will be heading home after losing her first match at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, RI. The 19-year-old Illinois State Unversity golfer lost 5&4 to Casey Danielson of Osceola, Wisconsin. The match was close for 10 holes, with Danielson holding a one-up lead, but she pulled ahead with a stretch of birdie, par, par, birdie to go 5 holes up after 14 holes. Cooper tied for 27th in the stroke play portion of the championship after shooting rounds of 71-73 for a +2 total. She was also the top Canadian in stroke play. Earlier this year, Cooper won the Ontario Women's Match Play Championship.
